This week my husband and I watched a documentary on Chipotle, and it was rather fascinating. And, in case you haven't noticed, there's a whole new category of restaurants that's being developed right under our noses. It's called fast casual dining. And, in my opinion, it was popularized by Chipotle. I love Chipotle!
Here's a list of fast casual restaurants I found on AZ Central for options in Phoenix.
Last night, my husband and I were looking for a fun new place to try for dinner, so we went on Yelp and found Fired Pie. It was a terrific place. It's a lot like Chipotle, or Subway, or however you want to think of it, except for pizza. You can either pick a pizza from a list of "signature pizzas", or you can create your own. You start with a sauce (we tried the Alfredo sauce, and it was absolutely delicious), then choose a cheese (they have several options, including fresh mozzarella), and then pick your toppings. You can get AS MANY TOPPINGS as you want, and the pizza still costs the same price: $7.95. The pizzas are 11 inches, so I would recommend getting 2 if you're going with another person. We got 2 and split between 3 people. I was left wishing there was more, but I wasn't necessarily still hungry. In fact, next door was a Paradise Bakery, so we stopped in and got cookies afterward to finish the meal off.
And apparently they make salad too. (Frankly, I'd rather have the pizza, but maybe someday...)
Here's the menu for Fired Pie.

Oh, and remember it's fast casual dining. So you watch the workers put your food together behind a window while you tell them what you want, and then they put it into an oven while you're paying. The crust was thin, so we only waited for about 5 minutes (if that) for our pizzas to be ready after we paid. It was so fast! (And casual!) And it was fresh! You should try it out. It's on Ray and the 101. Here's the address: 2855 W Ray Rd, Chandler, AZ 85224. If you're not in Chandler, they do have 4 other locations.
